Believe In Yourself

1. I remember a relative of mine who used to pick on me all the time, constantly ridiculing my every move and making me feel inferior. One day she had a pimple on her face and was devastated. I told her "Why would you let a little thing like that bother you in such a way? It's just a pimple!" And she cried and said "You can say that, because you're perfect and even if you have ten pimples on your face, it wouldn't even matter!" And I never forgot how I felt in that moment, that moment taught me some important things! First, I realized that the whole time she was picking on me, she actually was feeling that I was perfect! And secondly, I realized that when people think you're perfect, they try to make you feel bad about yourself! I was so taken aback in those few minutes— I couldn't even say anything! I just looked at her while all my realizations flooded my mind and I decided that just because you think someone is perfect, doesn't give you the ticket to make them feel bad about themselves.

"No," he said. "Memory's a poor thing to have. It's your own real hair and mouth and arms and eyes and hands I want. I didn't know I could ever love anything so much. Oh, Lyra, I wish this night would never end! If only we could stay here like this, and the world could stop turning, and everyone else could fall into a sleep..."

"Everyone except us! And you and I could live here forever and just love each other."

"I will love you forever; whatever happens. Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, I'll drift about forever, all my atoms, till I find you again..."

"I'll be looking for you, Will, every moment, every single moment. And when we do find each other again, we'll cling together so tight that nothing and no one'll ever tear us apart. Every atom of me and every atom of you...We'll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pin trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams...And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won't just be able to take one, they'll have to take two, one of you and one of me, we'll be joined so tight..."
They lay side by side, hand in hand, looking at the sky.”

It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else's eyes

Don't let people drive you crazy when you know it's in walking distance.  ~

Our remedies oft in ourselves do lie
Which we ascribe to heaven.

A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him or her. 

It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not. 

We have to learn to be our own best friends because we fall too easily into the trap of being our own worst enemies

It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to. 

Whether you think you can or think you can't - you are right. 

I quit being afraid when my first venture failed and the sky didn't fall down. 


If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint," then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced. 

Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you. 

I am convinced all of humanity is born with more gifts than we know.  Most are born geniuses and just get de-geniused rapidly. 

Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted. 

People are like stained-glass windows.  They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within. 

Don't live down to expectations.  Go out there and do something remarkable.  ~

Success comes in cans, not cant's

Put your future in good hands - your own. 

What a fool, quoth he, am I, thus to lie in a stinking dungeon, when I may as well walk at liberty!  I have a key in my bosom, called Promise, that will, I am persuaded, open any lock in Doubting Castle. 

I am not a has-been.  I am a will be. 

The light of starry dreams can only be seen once we escape the blinding cities

Believe in your self
If you really put a small value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise your price

Confidence comes not from always being right but from not fearing to be wrong. 

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage.  ~

Argue for your limitations and, sure enough, they're yours. 

You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them. 

It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves. 

Thousands of geniuses live and die undiscovered - either by themselves or by others. 


Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside of them was superior to circumstance. 


A great deal of talent is lost to the world for want of a little courage.  Every day sends to their graves obscure men whose timidity prevented them from making a first effort. 

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that so it goes on flying anyway. 


Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. 

Always act like you're wearing an invisible crown. 

The courage to be is the courage to accept oneself, in spite of being unacceptable. 


Of all our infirmities, the most savage is to despise our being. 

People are crying up the rich and variegated plumage of the peacock, and he is himself blushing at the sight of his ugly feet

It's hard to fight an enemy who has outposts in your head. 

When the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, it may be that they take better care of it there. 

Other people's opinion of you does not have to become your reality. 

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who'll decide where to go.


Confidence is preparation.  Everything else is beyond your control. 

Knock the "t" off the "can't." 

Sex appeal is fifty percent what you've got and fifty percent what people think you've got. 

They are the weakest, however strong, who have no faith in themselves or their own powers. 

We are all such a waste of our potential, like three-way lamps using one-way bulbs. 


Don't be distracted by criticism.  Remember - the only taste of success some people have is when they take a bite out of you. 


I have great faith in fools; self-confidence my friends call it. 

Your value is the product of your thoughts.  Do not miscalculate your self worth by multiplying your insecurities. 


If you doubt yourself, then indeed you stand on shaky ground.

Nothing reduces the odds against you like ignoring them.
